The year was 1890 and Wyoming had finally become 44th state to join the Union. That means we needed representation in Washington D.C., and Joe Carey was the man.

Joseph Carey was born in Milton, Delaware in the year 1845. He was admitted to the bar in 1867 and moved to the Cowboy State in 1869, where he was an attorney in the Wyoming Territory.

After serving in the House of Representatives from 1881 to 1885, he was elected as Senator on November 14, 1890 and served this post until 1895.
