Cheyenne Mayor Patrick Collins says "things are still on track" to fill the Hynds Building and "the hole" downtown.

Collins says it will take a year to finish the architectural plans before construction begins.

The adjacent property commonly known as "the hole" has been vacant since a 2003 fire destroyed a bakeshop that was once located there.

Cheyenne DDA Assistant Director Haylee Chenchar says work on a pocket park in the property should get underway next spring, with the project hopefully completed by the fall of 2022.

Amber Ash said filling the property is ''not really as simple as people think, especially when you are working around historic structures,"

Plans to fill "the hole" and redevelop the adjacent Hynds Building in downtown Cheyenne are moving forward.

Dale Steenbergen says he thinks spending public money will be needed to allow the project to move forward.

A historic building that has sit vacant in downtown Cheyenne for nearly 30 years may soon house the state's largest law firm.

After the fire, the land was sold to Cheyenne businessman Harry Hynds, who constructed the Hynds Building, which still stands on the corner of Lincolnway and Capitol Avenue.

Officials with the Children's Museum of Cheyenne say they had several reasons for rejecting an offer of free land on which to build the facility.
