A new study by lendingtree.com says Wyoming has the highest percentage of divorced people of any U.S. state.

The survey says 13.3 percent of Wyoming residents over the age of 15 were divorced as of 2022. The Cowboy State was followed by West Virginia at 13.2 percent and Nevada a 13.1 percent. Utah had the lowest percentage of divorced people at 8.3 percent, followed by New Jersey at 8.4 percent and California at  8.8 percent. The national average was 10.5 percent.

Wyoming Also Had The Biggest Increase In Divorces

Wyoming also saw a big increase in divorces between 2021 and 2022, according to the report:

''The percentage of the Wyoming population that was divorced increased by 8.1% between 2021 and 2022, followed by South Dakota (7.1%) and Vermont and Delaware (tied at 6.1%). The percentage of the population that was divorced decreased the most in Idaho (6.7%), Washington (5.3%) and Indiana (4.8%). The U.S. percentage dropped 0.9% between 2021 and 2022.''

According to forbes.com, roughly half of first marriages in the United States end in divorce. The divorce rates for second and third marriages are much higher.

Forbes says the average length of a marriage before divorce is 8 years.
