The speed limit on a stretch of Interstate 80 west of Rawlins has been increased to 80 mph from the previous 75 mph top speed, according to a release from the Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT).

The stretch of highway in which the speed limit was increased runs from exit 209 (Johnson Road) west to Creston Junction. I-80 west of Creston Junction was already assigned an 80 mph speed limit. WYDOT says the speed limit in that area was raised after a study was conducted.

The speed limit on the rest of I-80 in Carbon County remains at 75 mph.

WYDOT waited to implement the higher limit until after a road construction project in western Carbon and eastern Sweetwater counties was completed.
