The Cheyenne Police Department posted an interesting question on Facebook yesterday. Should they change their policy prohibiting officers from having visible tattoos?

The debate has generated over 150 comments so far. Most of the commenters favor of allowing officers to have tattoos, provided they aren't offensive or gang-related. Some pointed out that the Army recently relaxed their tattoo rules.

Others expressed concern that allowing inked-up officers could diminish the department's reputation.

"If you wish to be viewed as a professional organization, then you should require that your officers look professional, which means no visible tattoos," said one Facebook commenter.
