Sheriff’s Office Identifies Burns Homicide Victim
The victim of Wednesday's deadly shooting in Burns has been identified by the Laramie County Sheriff's Office as 43-year-old Ashley Bartel.
According to a department Facebook post, deputies were called to a reported shooting at 4572 Teal Ln. at 1:23 p.m. and arrived to find Bartel had been shot to death.
"Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and loved ones of Bartel during this difficult time," the post reads.
The LCSO says the suspect, 25-year-old Tyler James Hill, fled in a red Mazda car, but Pine Bluffs Police Chief Austin Smith spotted him on Interstate 80 near Pine Bluffs shortly afterward, and he was stopped at County Road 159 and County Road 210 and taken into custody without further incident.
On Thursday, Hill was charged with second-degree murder.
He's currently being held in the Laramie County Detention Center on a $250,000 cash bond awaiting a Sept. 1 preliminary hearing.
"The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office expresses gratitude to Chief Smith and all agencies involved for their swift and effective collaboration leading to the apprehension of the suspect," the post reads.
"Subsequently, law enforcement personnel conducted a thorough investigation of the scene, spanning from the Antelope Truck Stop to Exit 1 on Interstate 80 in Nebraska. This meticulous process ensured the collection and preservation of crucial evidence related to the incident. The Laramie County Sheriff’s Office would also like to express our gratitude to the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigations Investigators and Crime Lab team for their assistance processing the crime scene," the post goes on to say.
The LCSO says the incident is still under investigation and it encourages anyone with information pertinent to the case to contact them.
