The search for a 16-year-old boy missing since Sunday continued into Friday.

Joey Peterson, who is autistic, left his home near Goose Creek and Hat Six Road between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Sunday.

Thursday, the Peterson family asked for volunteers. People who want to volunteer must check in with a command post, must be properly outfitted, and are told to not trespass on private property, Sheriff's investigator Taylor Courtney said at a press conference on Friday.

The search area has expanded to 228 square miles by law enforcement, drones and trained search personnel, he said.

Peterson walked away from his home near Hat Six and Goose Creek roads Sunday afternoon. A search immediately ensued minutes after his disappearance. Local, statewide and federal agencies are taking part in the search.
