Newly released transcripts from President Bill Clinton's time in office show the former president said people " would be shooting at me" if he ever visited Wyoming, according to an article in the New York Times.

In reality, the former President is known to have visited the cowboy state on at least two occasions without any record of shots being fired.

Those trips included a vacation trip to the Jackson Hole area in 1996 and a campaign visit which included a speech in Rock Springs on behalf of his wife's presidential campaign in 2008.

The Times article is based on transcripts which were recently released by the Clinton Presidential Library
