Forecasters with the Cheyenne office of the National Weather Service are warning about a possible winter storm on Wednesday which could dump 8-12 inches of snow in some areas of southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle.

The service posted this statement on its website on Monday:

''Wintry weather looks to make a return to the region Wednesday through Wednesday night with rain changing to snow Wednesday as temperatures get colder. Moderate to heavy snowfall is looking more likely over parts of the area, and a Winter Storm WATCH has been issued for parts of the area, shaded in blue in the map above. The snow will be accompanied by gusty winds which could produce areas of blowing and drifting snow, making for hazardous travel conditions, especially late Wednesday into Thursday. "
