Cheyenne Police apprehended an impaired driver who attempted to elude officers, according to police spokesman Sgt. Rob Dafoe.Dafoe says at about 9:30 pm Thursday, an officer attempted to stop a 2006 Jeep Cherokee after it failed to stop at a posted stop sign near 25th St. and Morrie Ave. Instead, the vehicle sped eastbound on Pershing Blvd. at a speed estimated to be 75 mph.

The Jeep then continued north on side streets while the driver continued to accelerate in an attempt to elude the officer, sometimes traveling at 50 mph through residential areas, Dafoe says.

The Jeep ultimately lost control after striking two dips in the road near Concord and Newton, then crashed into a parked car in the 3600 block of Cheshire. The injured driver, identified as Chon Watson, 37 of Cheyenne, was then combative with officers and had to be physically restrained, Dafoe says.

Watson was transported to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center by ambulance.  He was booked into jail on multiple violations to including failure to stop, eluding arrest, reckless driving, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and failure to wear a seatbelt. Additionally, Watson was booked by the Wyoming Highway Patrol on drunk driving charges.

The case remains under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department and the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
