Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak says most serious crime rates in the city are declining.

According to a new report from the department crime dropped 27% between 2010 and 2013, and has also mostly been declining over the past year.

The one big exception over the past year is vehicle burglaries, which have increased by 29% since this time last year.

But over the same period, vehicle vandalism has decreased by 54%, rapes are down by 52% and assaults are down by 13%. Auto theft and larceny show increases of 5% and 2% respectively.

There murder rate though this date in 2013 and 2014 is identical, with one over both periods.

Kozak credits community involvement in programs such as Neighborhood Watch, Neighborhood Night Out, and the Citizen's Police Academy with contributing to the overall decrease in crime
