The city parking garage located on Carey Avenue and West Lincolnway in Cheyenne was renamed for former Mayor Jack Spiker Tuesday morning.

The garage is now formally known the "Jack R. Spiker Parking Facility". Tuesday's date of July 2 was was chosen to commemorate the original opening of the garage on July 2, 2004. Spiker, who served as Cheyenne Mayor from 2001 until 2009 also served eight years on the Cheyenne City Council.

Current Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen praised Spiker for his dedication to developing the downtown area and for his vision of what the downtown could become. Spiker said he was honored by the renaming of the garage, adding he had the help of a visionary city council in his downtown development efforts
