In the past month, Maine Gov. Paul LePage and New Mexico’s Gov. Suzana Martinez rescinded ‘sanctuary policy’ executive orders from former governors of those states.

Several open borders advocates and Hispanic organizations cried, “Foul!”

Neither governor  blinked!

“New Mexico Democrats are slamming Republican governor Susana Martinez over an order issued reforming the state’s immigration system,” reported the local paper, The State Column.  “Democratic legislators are vowing to fight a directive by Ms. Martinez requiring state law enforcement to ask about the immigration status of criminal suspects. More than one dozen state lawmakers criticized the Republican governor’s immigration reform proposal, likening it to the controversial immigration law in Arizona.”

Since she is Hispanic, they could not engage the ‘race’ card.

IT’S ABOUT THE RULE OF LAW

“The Republican, who made national headlines after being elected the nation’s first Latina governor, said she would eliminate an executive order by former Gov. Bill Richardson, prohibiting law enforcement officials from asking individuals about their immigration status,” said The Column. “Ms. Martinez ordered the immigration law into effect earlier this week, sparking criticism from Democrats and debate from supporters and opponents.”

Ms. Martinez defended the law, saying, “This order takes the handcuffs off of  New Mexico’s law enforcement officers in their mission to keep our communities safe.”

Many states across the nation, overrun by illegal alien migrants and suffering from degraded schools, medical systems and overworked police — continue to push for laws similar to Arizona’s SB 1070.  That law took effect last year and chased tens of thousands of  illegal aliens from Arizona.  Because of its success, more and more states hope to pass similar laws.

Lawmakers work aggressively in Nebraska, Texas, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Colorado and Idaho to implement the Arizona law to dissuade illegals from planting themselves in those states.

Kris Kobach, written up in Newsweek, “America’s deporter in chief” , February 7, 2011, continues as chief counsel for states that want to pass Arizona’s highly effective law.  He said, “People often see federal immigration policy as a dichotomy between amnesty and deportation. But the most rational approach is a third one: you ratchet up the enforcement so that people make their own decisions to start following the laws. In other words, they self-deport.”

While all anti-illegal immigrant leaders suffer from name calling and a plethora of rebuke from the main stream press, Kobach said, “I don’t have a racist bone in my body.  In a legal debate, when your opponents turn to name-calling, it’s a good sign you have already won.”

In the coming months, the rule of law will take on a new meaning from the newly appointed Republican majority in the U.S. House of Representatives to a swing toward stopping illegal immigration in America. States take it on at the states’ rights level.  The noose tightens around illegal aliens in America.
