More Young People Voting in Wyoming
Numbers released by the Wyoming Secretary of State's Office show more young people are voting in the Cowboy State.
"I'm pleased to announce that we did triple the voter turnout over 2014," said Secretary of State Ed Murray. "The 2014 voter turnout was 10.6 percent for the voting age population between 18 and 24 and in 2016 it was 34.8 percent."
While the numbers are very encouraging, Murray says people need to keep in mind that 2014 was a non-presidential year.
"The last presidential year for which we have numbers for 18 to 24-year-olds is 2012," said Murray. "That turnout was 33 percent, so we're above that as well."
Murray says even though Wyoming has made great strides in increasing youth voter turnout, the state needs to continue to look at ways to get more young people to the polls.
