A 57-year-old Cheyenne transient is behind bars following a chase that ended with his pickup in Crow Creek.

Laramie County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Captain Linda Gesell says a deputy noticed a pickup with a brake light out on the Central Avenue viaduct around 9:30 p.m. last (Monday) night.

When the deputy tried to stop the driver, later identified as Daniel Westby, Westby sped up and ended up driving his pickup into Crow Creek near the 300 block of W. 10th Street.

Gesell says Westby tried to run from the deputy, but he was later found hiding in the tall grass and weeds along the creek bank and arrested.

Westby has been charged with fleeing/eluding, reckless driving, brake lamp equipment required, interference with a peace officer and driving with a suspended license. His arraignment is scheduled for July 17 in Laramie County Circuit Court.
