A man whose body was found on Cheyenne Refinery's property in the fall of 2023 has been identified, Laramie County Coroner Rebecca Reid announced Wednesday.

Reid says the human remains, which were found in Crow Creek on Nov. 14, 2023, have been positively identified as those of 61-year-old transient Neal D. Samson.

"Identification was made possible through DNA analysis from the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation," Reid said in a press release.

"The Laramie County Coroner’s Office along with the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office is grateful for the public’s assistance in this long-standing investigation and sends their deepest condolences to Neal’s family and friends during this difficult time," Reid added.

Cause of Death Under Investigation

Reid says Samson's cause of death is still under investigation.

According to booking sheets, Samson was arrested on Feb. 10, 2019, after calling himself in explaining he was intoxicated.

According to the arresting officer, Samson had a lifetime trespass from The ARC of Laramie County and the Comea Shelter.

Samson was arrested for public intoxication again on April 26, 2023, and booked on the charge as well as a warrant out of Cheyenne Municipal Court for failure to appear on an original charge of unlawful entry onto property.
