A man is behind bars after allegedly stealing a commercial truck and leading a Wyoming trooper on a pursuit.

Highway patrol spokesman Sgt. Jeremy Beck says it all started around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 12, after troopers were notified of a box-style commercial truck recently stolen from the Target in Cheyenne.

Beck says a trooper located and attempted to stop the truck north of Cheyenne on Interstate 25, but the driver, later identified as 45-year-old Alabama resident Jerry Jones, failed to stop and a low-speed chase ensued.

"Troopers successfully deployed spike strips to deflate the truck tires around milepost 40 on Interstate 25, causing the driver's side tire to deflate," said Beck.

"The truck stopped around milepost 46 on Interstate 25, where (Jones) was taken into custody without further incident," he added.

Jones was booked into the Laramie County jail for theft of the truck and eluding a peace officer. He had yet to be formally charged as of early Wednesday afternoon.
