Cheyenne Mayor Rick Kaysen says there is "no doubt" that money the city receives from the federal government is a good thing.

The city has been criticized recently by opponents of Plan Cheyenne for taking federal money that critics say comes with too many strings attached. But Kaysen says that while the city is required to report how the money is used, people overstate the conditions that come with federal funds.

He says the city has received more than $100 million in federal money in recent years in connection with Plan Cheyenne, which has been very helpful in paying for a variety of projects.

He also argues that since local taxpayers contribute to federal funds, common sense dictates trying to recover some of that money where possible.
