A new No. 1 and a new team entered the top five of the WyoPreps Coaches and Media Softball Poll on Wednesday. Last week’s conference sweep of the top two teams has pushed Cheyenne East to the top of the rankings. A 4-1 start to their season helped Laramie make their poll debut in 2024. Those were the big changes in the latest rankings.

WYOMING HIGH SCHOOL SOFTBALL RANKINGS WEEK 3 2024

Cheyenne East climbed from third to first in the Coaches and Media Poll after a 6-1 start to their season last week. That included two conference victories over last week’s top two teams, Thunder Basin and Campbell County. The Thunderbirds received 13 of the 21 first-place votes but also got votes in each spot of the top five.

The Bolts still earned six first-place tallies but dropped to second in the new rankings. That also pushed Campbell County down to third. The Camels garnered one first-place vote.

Cody was the only team among the top five that didn’t change. The Fillies won their two non-conference games last week and held at No. 4.

New this week was Laramie. The Plainsmen went 2-1 at the Cheyenne Softball Invitational, which included a 3-2 win over previously fifth-ranked Cheyenne Central. Laramie followed that with a sweep of a twin bill at Wheatland. All of it provided enough for the Plainsmen to join the poll.

Three more teams received votes in this week’s poll.
