PhotoFest: Torrington Posts Road Playoff Win Over Mountain View
Mountain View came into their 2A semi-final football game with an unblemished record of 10-0. Their opponent, Torrington lost their first two games of the season but came into this playoff game winners of their last 5 in a row. What a game this was!
Torrington opened the scoring in quarter #1 with an 8-yard run for a touchdown from Greysen Shields. The extra point was missed and the Blazers led 6-0. Torrington extended their lead in quarter #2 thanks to Kaiden Riggs who blasted into the end zone from 3 yards out so the Blazers were in good shape leading 13-0. Mountain View answered back with a 2-yard run for a TD from Justus Platts to make it 13-6. The Buffs also got a 42-yard field goal from Landon Solaas so Mountain View trailed 13-9 at the break.
In the 3rd quarter, Solaas connected again, this time from 41 yards out, and that cut the Torrington lead to 13-12. The Blazers asserted themselves in the 4th quarter as quarterback Bryce Hager threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Greysen Shields to bump the lead to 19-12. That was followed by a 4-yard run for a TD by Kaiden Riggs so at this juncture, Torrington led 25-12.
Mountain View had some fuel left in the tank as Justus Platts found Carson Eardley for 5 yards and a touchdown and it was 25-19. That was as close as the Buffaloes would get with Torrington punching their ticket to Friday's 2A championship game vs. Big Horn.
The Blazers are 8-3 on the year on the year and last won a state championship back in 1990. Mountain View went 10-1 this season and won their last state title in 2019.
