Did You Park in Moose or Trout? Downtown Laramie Renames Lots
Parking in Downtown Laramie can be a little stressful. To help alleviate the game of “Can I park here,” the Laramie Main Street Alliance asked residents to rename five free all-day parking lots in the downtown area to highlight the public parking the city has provided.
Almost 250 community members responded to the LMSA survey. The winning parking lot names are Wyoming wildlife-themed:
Parking lot #1 at Garfield and 1st: TROUT, with 42% of the vote.
Parking lot #2 between Custer and Garfield on 1st, JACKALOPE, with 72% of the vote.
Parking lot #3 at Custer and 2nd, SAGE-GROUSE, with 72% of the vote.
Parking lot #4 at University and 1st, BISON, with 57% of the vote.
Parking lot #5 at University and 4th, MOOSE, with 65% of the vote.
Linda Velenti won the $25 downtown gift certificate for completing the parking lot name survey. The free lots are located throughout the downtown area. Instead of trying to remember the letter and number like at DIA, you just have to have your Wyoming animals sorted out.
Laramie Main Street Alliance (LMSA) is planning further enhancements to parking lots. New signage is being planned to continue the beautification of downtown. LMSA will be looking for artists to help design the new signs.
Soon there will be incentives for downtown employees who use the free lots during their working hours. LMSA’s parking committee is currently developing the incentives; if you’re interested in volunteering with the initiative, contact Kim Jessen, LMSA Volunteer Coordinator at kim@laramiemainstreet.org or visit the Laramie Main Street site.
