8 Arrests Made in Albany, Laramie Counties During 2023 Border War

Law enforcement agencies in Albany and Laramie counties made 175 traffic stops and eight arrests during Nov. 3rd's Border War Impaired Driving Enforcement Operation, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

Lt. Kyle McKay says five of the arrests were for impaired driving and three were for controlled substances.

McKay says 39 speeding citations, four seat belt citations, 16 other citations, and 144 warnings were also issued.

Fortunately, weather was not a factor and there were no fatal crashes reported during the operation.

"Since 2015, law enforcement in Wyoming and Colorado have teamed up as part of a multi-state impaired driving enforcement operation," McKay said in a news release.

"For the 115th Border War game, traffic enforcement was concentrated on U.S. Highway 287, Interstate 25, and Interstate 80, to and from the game that was played in Laramie this year," he added.

Agencies involved in Wyoming included the Wyoming Highway Patrol, the Laramie Police Department, the Albany County Sheriff’s Office, the University of Wyoming Police Department, the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cheyenne Police Department.

"Along with this enhanced enforcement effort, the Wyoming Highway Patrol is urging drivers to help keep Wyoming’s roadways safe by calling the Report Every Drunk Driver Immediately (REDDI) hotline number at 1-800-442-9090 to report suspected drunk drivers," said McKay,

"Callers should be prepared to provide the dispatcher with a description of the vehicle, its location, and the direction of travel," he added.

There have been 124 fatalities on Wyoming highways so far this year, compared to 119 in 2022, 101 in 2021, 118 in 2020, and 136 in 2019 to date.
