The Laramie County Sheriff's Department and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms are trying to locate the owner of a .25 caliber handgun that is believed to have been involved in the fatal shooting of 8 year old Gage McClellan. Investigators believe the shooting was accidental, but have not been able so far to determine the owner of the gun. Sheriff's Department spokesman Gerry Luce says the gun was not owned by either McClellan's parents or the parents of another young boy who led investigators to the handgun. Luce says investigators are pursuing a number of angles in their inquiry into the ownership of the weapon, including fingerprints and other forensic evidence. Luce says it's not clear at this point whether the weapon's owner might face any sort of charges in the case.
