I-80 Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Drug Charges for Cheyenne Man

A 54-year-old Cheyenne man is facing felony drug charges following a traffic stop east of Cheyenne.

According to a booking sheet, Blake Craig Wilson was driving west on Interstate 80 near Archer around 3:30 last Friday afternoon, Sept. 29, when a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper stopped him for following too closely and for expired registration.

While the trooper was speaking with Wilson, a deputy with the Laramie County Sheriff's Office conducted a free air sniff with his K-9 and the dog alerted on Wilson's pickup.

The deputy also spotted suspected fentanyl pills in the center console and Wilson was placed under arrest.

While completing the probable cause search of the pickup, more suspected fentanyl was found along with suspected methamphetamine.

Wilson was subsequently charged with felony possession of fentanyl and methamphetamine, following too closely, and no valid registration.

He made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court yesterday morning, Oct. 2, during which his bond was set at $3,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Oct. 11 at 2:30 p.m.
