Don Hollingshead and Ty Zwonitzer lead a field of seven candidates to win the GOP Primary election to the Laramie County Commission.

No Democrats filed for the two open seats on the commission.

Hollingshead, a long-time member of the Laramie County Sheriff's Office, lost a 2022 primary election for Laramie County Sheriff to former Cheyenne Police Chief Brian Kozak. Kozak was eventually elected as sheriff, a position he still holds.

But this time around he hit the campaign trail early and often in the commissioner race. He led all vote getters  on Tuesday with 6,009. Zwonitzer, a member of a local family that has long been active in Republican politics, narrowly edged Jess Ketcham, the son of a former county commissioner by a margin of 5,463 to 5,224.

The 2024 election will fill two seats on the commission. Incumbents Buck Holmes and Brian Lovett are not running for reelection.
