Online Poll: What Is Your Top Issue In The Wyoming Primary Election Tuesday?

Wyoming's 2026 Primary Election is coming up on Tuesday, August 18th.

A long list of offices is being featured in the primary, ranging from local city council races to statewide contests for Governor, U.S. Senator, and the U.S. House of Representatives. Rather than polling people on the individual contests, we thought we would ask what issues are on your mind as you decide your voting preferences.

What Issue Are You Most Concerned About?

Obviously, there are different issues in different races. But it seems like there are a few issues that have dominated the political discussion this year. In the interest of brevity, we singled out the three issues that seemingly have generated the most discussion in recent weeks

But if you think the biggest issue is something else, for this poll you can write in your choice.

Data Centers?

This is an issue that has seemingly come out of nowhere in 2026 to be arguably the single biggest topic of discussion in recent weeks.

On one side are the pro-data center folks who see the data center industry as a potential boon to Wyoming. There has been a tremendous amount of discussion in recent years about diversifying our economy. Data centers, according to some, are the answer, or at least an answer. Wyoming, with its relatively cheap energy and cool climate, is apparently a good location for the booming data center industry.

Needless to say, not everyone is enthralled with the idea of building data centers in Wyoming. Perhaps the biggest single concern is water in a state where that resource has always been a precious commodity. Then there is electricity. The facilities either will or won't drive up electricity rates for state residents, depending on who you think is more believable.

Other opponents worry the centers will change Wyoming's scenic beauty and rural nature. And what about the concerns about impacts on agriculture?

Property Taxes?

This is another big one, and has been for the past couple of years.

A fair number of folks think residential property taxes are just too high and say that needs to change. Others point out that Wyoming residential property taxes are only 40th-highest out of the 50 states.

There is a ballot initiative on the November General Election Ballot to cut residential property taxes by 50 percent. While that won't be decided until the November General Election, that doesn't mean the issue isn't on people's minds now.

After all, whoever we elect to office will still have to deal with the issue on some level. If the initiative passes, do we need to make cuts? Or find other revenue sources?

And if it fails, do we need to find another way to cut property taxes?

Government Officials Who Ignore The People

On issues like data centers and wind farms, among others, we see an extremely common complaint on social media.

It goes something like this ''We give our opinion, and it doesn't matter. They ignore us and do what they want."

Is it the duty of public officials to listen to the people? Some might argue that we elect smart people to make tough decisions. It's not always going to be easy. As Harry Truman said, "If you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen."

But the flip side of that is ''Why take public comment if you are just going to ignore the people? Whatever happened to government by and for the people?

If social media is an accurate gauge, a lot of people feel like they are being ignored. And they aren't happy about it.

As we mentioned above, we wanted to keep the choices for this poll short. That isn't to say these are the only issues. They aren't.

Immigration? Flock cameras? Wind farms? Crime? The Wyoming Freedom Caucus, or on the flip side, Wyoming RINOS?
