Growing up, docs gave us allergy tests. Cats, weeds, grass, pollen, mold, dust and Olive trees in the winter time were a few that could really get our allergies pumping.  Today on the Top 5 at 7:45, I'll highlight what doctors are telling us to help us survive the tidal wave of allergies that can strike us due to pollen and other junk in the air.

  1. Don a hat and sunglasses when you're outside to help prevent pollen getting into your eyes and hair.
  2. Take a shower every night. This way you can wash off any pollen that you may have accumulated during the day outside.
  3. Exercise Inside. When the pollen counts are dangerously high, do your exercise inside the house.
  4. Dry your close in the dryer. I know during the spring its awesome to have sun and wind dried bed sheets and clothes. However, these can hold moving pollen on them which can affect you later.
  5. Clean your eyes with baby shampoo. This is one of those weird tips that some doctors recommend to clean out those itchy eyes.

When it's all said and done, consult a doctor. Especially if your symptoms continue. Your doctor may recommend either moisturizing eye drops or another type of anti-allergy medication.

The Top 5 at 7:45 airs weekdays at 7:45 with me, Gary Freeman and sponsored by First Education Federal Credit Union. Hope you have an itch-free spring.
