Flashing/solid yellow = A pedestrian has requested to cross. Slow down and get ready to stop.
Solid red = Stop completely. Wait for pedestrians to cross.
Flashing red = Stop. Check that the crosswalk is clear and proceed only when it’s safe (treat this like a stop sign).
Hare are the locations where the HAWK system is in effect, according to the post:
✔️ Signal Locations:
- Yellowstone Road (near Davis Elementary School)
- East Pershing Boulevard & McCann Avenue (near Baggs Elementary)
- Western Hills Boulevard & Moccasin Avenue (near McCormick Jr. High)
The McCormick crosswalk is notable because 13-year-old Makaili "Mak" Evans was on his way to school when a woman driving a Ford Escape eastbound on Western Hills Boulevard hit him in the crosswalk in front of McCormick in November of 2021.
Evans was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center with critical injuries where he was later pronounced dead.
His mother, Janelle Jones, has since made it her mission to improve crosswalk safety in Cheyenne, including through the ForMak Facebook page
