Gov. Mark Gordon has appointed Jason M. Conder as a district court judge for the Ninth Judicial District serving Fremont County, according to a news release.

Conder fills the vacancy occurring with the retirement of Judge Norman Young effective July 3.

He has been a Wyoming assistant U.S. attorney for the Lander branch office since 2005.

In a recent federal court case, Conder prosecuted the case of Arapaho James Oldman, who was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Charles Dodge III in Arapahoe in 2017.

Before that, he was deputy county attorney in Uinta County and clerked for former Wyoming District Court Judge Terrence O’Brien -- now a judge with the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals -- and the late U.S. District Court Judge Clarence Brimmer.

Conder received degrees from the University of Utah and graduated from the University of Wyoming College of Law.

"The Judicial Nominating Commission provided excellent candidates making for a difficult decision," Gordon said in the news release. "I am pleased to select Jason Conder as the next District Judge in Fremont County."

Conder also has worked extensively with the Northern Arapaho and Eastern Shoshone Tribes, Gordon added.
