At the site where Gabby Petito's body was found, there is now an arrangement of stones in the shape of a cross.

Her body was discovered on Sunday at the Spread Creek Dispersed Campground in the Bridger-Teton National Forrest in Wyoming.

Richard Safford, the family lawyer, gave a statement on behalf of Petito’s family after she was identified.

"I want to personally thank the press and news media for giving the Petito and Schmidt family time to grieve," Stafford said in a statement. "We will be making a statement when Gabby is home. I will contact you to arrange a time and location."

As you can see by the photo we have, above, and in the video below, where she was found is filling with items left by people who have been touched by this story.

It might seem a little weird for folks to camp at that site, so no one is for now. It might seem equally strange for anyone to camp in nearby sites. But this time of year those campgrounds are full.

Nothing can be known about the long-term status of where she was found. Will it ever return to a normal campsite? Will it become a permeant memorial? Only time will tell.

This sort of campground is not like what you might find in some of the more managed ones around the state of Wyoming. I looked up images of the campground area, that you can see at this link, and you'll see it is just a beautiful "camp where you can" area.

It would not be surprising, considering the national attention of this story, that one day we might see a more permanent memorial of some sort where those stones have been placed.
