A Fort Collins woman was killed in an avalanche on Sunday afternoon, according to the LarImer County Sheriff's Office.

The agency posted the following statement on their Facebook page:

''On Sunday, 12/8/2019, at about 2:45 p.m., the Larimer County Communications Center received a 911 call that a backcountry skier had been caught in an avalanche near Cameron Pass on Highway 14. Other members of the party had dug the skier out and called for help. Deputies from Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and rescue resources from neighboring Jackson County responded.

The skier, a 29-year-old female from Fort Collins, was not breathing after the avalanche. She was declared deceased at the scene, and her body was recovered from the mountainside by the responding rescue resources. Her identity, as well as cause and nature of death, will be released by the Larimer County Coroner’s Office.''
