18-Year-Old Motorcyclist Killed in Fiery Crash in Cheyenne
An 18-year-old is dead after crashing his motorcycle into a building in north central Cheyenne, police say.
According to Public Information Officer Alex Farkas, the crash happened at about 11:25 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of East Lincolnway and Nationway.
Speed Possibly to Blame for Fatal Motorcycle Crash
"Preliminary details show the crash occurred as two motorcyclists were traveling along East Lincolnway," Farkas said in a news release. "An officer in the area observed both traveling at a high rate of speed."
"As one rider approached a turn, he lost control and collided with (Cheyenne Stitch)," Farkas added. "A fire erupted as a result of the crash, prompting additional rescue response from Cheyenne Fire Rescue."
Farkas says the motorcyclist, who the Laramie County Coroner’s Office has yet to identify, was wearing a helmet but died at the scene.
She says the other motorcyclist, 23-year-old Cheyenne resident David Rutherford, was not injured and remained on the scene.
"He was issued citations for careless driving and driving without a motorcycle endorsement," said Farkas.
"Due to the severity of the crash, the Cheyenne Police Department’s Major Crash Unit responded to take over the investigation," she added.
Sadly, it was just last month that 20-year-old Cheyenne resident Ayden Maitner lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into Cheyenne Stitch.
