A 28-year-old trucker from Texas is dead after being run over by his co-driver, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

It happened around 7:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at milepost 137 on Interstate 80, roughly 30 miles east of Rock Springs.

Roadside Check Turns Deadly

According to a fatality crash summary, Idris Kirgin had gotten out of the semi he was driving to inspect a possible mechanical issue.

"His co-driver then got into the driver's seat, released the brakes, and moved forward about thirty feet," the summary reads. "(Kirgin) was run over by the trailer's dual tires."

Driver Inattention

The summary lists driver inattention as a possible contributing factor.

10th Pedestrian Death

Kirgin is the 10th reported pedestrian to die on Wyoming's highways this year.

There have been 96 reported fatal crashes in Wyoming this year, resulting in 106 deaths.
