Cheyenne Man Charged With 12 Felonies in Check Fraud Scheme
A 26-year-old Cheyenne man has been charged with 12 felonies in connection with a check fraud scheme.
According to a booking sheet, a police detective and deputies with the Laramie County Sheriff's Office contacted Marvell Essjames Evans in the parking lot outside his apartment at 302 Montalto Dr. around 11:45 a.m. on Feb. 2.
When the detective told Evans he was under arrest and went to handcuff him, Evans reportedly pulled away and took off on foot, but law enforcement was able to catch him while still in the parking lot.
Evans was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and ultimately charged with six counts of conspiracy to commit forgery, three counts of theft, and three counts of forgery, all felonies, as well as interference with a peace officer, a misdemeanor.
Police say the felonies occurred between Jan. 26 and Jan. 31, 2024.
Evans made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday morning, Feb. 6, during which his bond was set at $7,500 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Feb. 14 at 2 p.m.
