A 45-year-old Cheyenne man being sought by the Wyoming Fugitive Task Force is now behind bars.

High-Risk Traffic Stop

According to a booking sheet and the Laramie County Sheriff's Office, Timothy James Burney was arrested at 1:55 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 10, following a high-risk traffic stop near Henderson Drive and East Pershing Boulevard.

"Burney complied with commands to exit the vehicle and was safely placed in custody," the Sheriff's Office in a Facebook post on Wednesday afternoon said.

The arresting police detective says Burney was driving a pickup without an interlock device, driver's license, and liability insurance.

4 Warrants

The detective says Burney was wanted on four warrants, one for aggravated assault with injury signed by Laramie County Circuit Court Judge Antoinette Williams on Nov. 21, one for felony failure to comply signed by Circuit Court Judge Sean C. Chambers on Dec. 3, one for misdemeanor failure to comply, and one out of Municipal Court for failure to appear.

According to the Sheriff's Office, the Wyoming Fugitive Task Force adopted the aggravated assault case on Burney on Dec. 6.

Searches Lead to Drugs, Loaded Gun

Burney was searched and reportedly had a white powdery substance in his left front pants pocket.

The Sheriff's Office says drugs and a loaded firearm were also recovered from the pickup.

Burney was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center without incident, where he was booked on his warrants as well as four misdemeanor charges, including driving without an interlock device, driver's license, proof of liability insurance, and possession of a controlled substance.

Burney is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Circuit Court on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 2 p.m.
