Traffic Stop on I-25 Near Cheyenne Leads to Meth, Felony Charge
An Arizona man is facing a felony drug possession charge after a Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper reportedly found methamphetamine in his SUV.
According to a booking sheet, 31-year-old Phoenix resident Josue Martinez was stopped at mile marker 19 on Interstate 25 on Tuesday.
Search Leads to 25.4 Grams of Meth
A subsequent search of Martinez's Lexus SUV resulted in the seizure of approximately 25.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine.
Martinez was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with felony possession of methamphetamine, a crime punishable by up to seven years in prison, up to a $15,000 fine, or both.
Martinez was also charged with failure to maintain a single lane, a misdemeanor.
Martinez made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Wednesday morning, during which his bond was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 19, 2024, at 11 a.m.
