Investigators with the Rock Springs Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service are trying to find out who passed $950 in counterfeit bills recently.

Sgt. Curt Christensen of the police department says the phony bills were discovered by  Wells Fargo Bank bank over the weekend after being deposited  from a local electronics store. Christensen says the phony bills included eight $100 and three $50 dollar bills. He says the bogus bills were not of good quality, adding a close examination of the money would probably raise a red flag.

He says people should check for the red fibers that are normally embedded in American money and look for an identifying strip that is included in a corner of legitimate bills.

Christensen says that while counterfeit money is normally investigated by the Secret Service, Rock Springs Police are looking into this incident as a fraud case.
