Ward 1 Cheyenne City Councilman Jimmy Valdez says he is disappointed that it has taken so long to install new tennis courts in Martin Luther King Jr. Park. Valdez says it has been over two years since the project was first discussed, and  the work still hasn't started. Valdez made the comments at Monday's meeting of the Cheyenne City Council Finance Committee, where he joined Councilman Jack Spiker in supporting a proposal to start work on the tennis courts, which passed the committee on a 2-0 vote. The proposal now goes to the full city council on Monday night. Valdez says he feels the park is being treated differently than other parks in the city.  Rick Parrish, Director of the Cheyenne Parks and Recreation Department,  disputed that view at the meeting, saying the city has done extensive work at Martin Luther King Jr. Park in recent years, including new sidewalks, a new basketball court and improved lighting.
