Cheyenne Woman Arrested for First-Degree Murder in 2022 Stabbing
A Cheyenne woman has been arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder in connection with a 2022 stabbing that left a Cheyenne man dead, the Laramie County Sheriff's Office announced Tuesday.
Rocsand Page Bocanegra, 43, was taken into custody on a warrant yesterday, Feb. 13.
Bocanegra is accused of fatally stabbing 58-year-old Jess Smith on Aug. 8, 2022.
According to the sheriff's office, deputies were called to Smith's home in the 700 block of Mitchell Court shortly before 5:30 a.m. and arrived to find him suffering from a stab wound.
Smith was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Bocanegra is scheduled to make her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court at 9:45 a.m. today, Feb. 14.
Bocanegra was originally arrested on suspicion of second-degree murder on Aug. 10, 2022, but released from jail on Aug. 13, 2022, after former Laramie County District Attorney Leigh Anne Grant Manlove declined to charge her saying there was not enough evidence to prove Bocanegra was not acting in self-defense.
