Water customers in south, west and downtown Cheyenne may experience discolored water today due to water main damage that happened on March 16.

That's according to a news release from the Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities [BOPU].

According to the release, customers should be able to clear their water by running cold water from a faucet for about 20-30 minutes. The release says you should start with the lowest faucet in your home and then open one faucet at a time, moving from the lowest floor to the highest.

People are also being told to avoid doing laundry or using hot water while the water is discolored to prevent minerals or sediment from being drawn into water heaters or coming into contact with clothing.

The release says that while the discolored water is not up to Cheyenne's usual water standards, it is not unsafe.
