Cheyenne To Hold Open House On Proposed Roundabout
The City of Cheyenne has scheduled an open house next week on a proposed roundabout project.
The one-lane roundabout would be built at the intersection of Prairie Avenue and Frontier Mall Drive. That intersection has a high crash rate, and supporters of the proposal say the roundabout would be safer.
The new roundabout was proposed by the Cheyenne Metropolitan Planning Organization [MPO] as part of a study conducted in August of 2014.
The study found the current intersection has an unusually wide median which makes it unsafe for drivers to cross. City officials say the geometry of the intersection has caused at least 25 crashes. The study found a roundabout would be a safer long-term solution than a traditionl traffic signal.
The open house is slated for Thursday, March 16 at the Staybridge Suites at 5109 Frontier Mall Drive from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. City spokesman Scott Smith says public displays will be set up around the meeting room and people will be able to talk with project team members and give them comments.
