Cheyenne Summer Watering Schedule Starts Monday

The Cheyenne Board of Public Utilities [BOPU] has announced the normal Summer watering schedule will take effect on Monday.

Spokeswoman Dena Egenhoff says because local reservoirs that provide water to the City have adequate water supplies, no conservation measures beyond the usual Summer restrictions will be in effect. The guidelines which take effect Monday include the following:

• From May 1 to September 1 watering between 10 AM to 5 PM is prohibited. • Customers can water lawns and grass up to three days per week.

• Wasting water, such as allowing water to run down the street is prohibited.

• Gardens and flowers can be watered any day before 10 AM or after 5 PM.

• Customers wanting to water daily to establish new sod or seed must obtain a watering permit and amend soils. For more information visit:  www.cheyennecity.org/conservation.

But even though the "normal" watering rules remain in effect, for now, that could change over the next few months.

Cheyenne's reservoirs are at 87 percent of normal and the U.S. drought monitor outlook is forecasting abnormally dry conditions for the southeastern part of the state over the next few months. The BOPU may decide to implement more stringent restrictions if water reserves become problematic
