Three Cheyenne teens are being held on $10,000 cash bonds after allegedly setting fire to a vacant home, causing an estimated $146,560 worth of damage.

Case Background

According to Cheyenne Fire Rescue, crews were called to the fire at 5908 Ridge Rd. around 1:30 a.m. on May 28.

CFR says the home was considered abandoned and the structure deemed unsafe.

On May 30, police posted surveillance video on their Facebook page taken from a residence in the 3600 block of Harvey Street asking for help in identifying the four individuals shown in the video, as they were believed to have intentionally started the fire.

Warrants for 3rd-Degree Arson

According to booking sheets, two of the suspects, 18-year-olds Kyle Asher Brown and Ryder Nolan Peterson, were arrested on warrants on June 25, the same day Peterson turned 18.

The warrants were for third-degree arson, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison, up to a $5,000 fine, or both.

Another suspect, 17-year-old Brayden Weil, was also arrested and charged with third-degree arson.

Bonds Set at $10K Cash

On Thursday, June 26, Brown, Peterson, and Weil were seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge TJ Forwood on their charges.

According to the state, none of the three have a criminal history, but due to the seriousness of their charges, the state recommended $10,000 cash bonds and requested that they have no contact with each other.

Forwood agreed with the state, calling the alleged conduct "incredibly troubling."

"This is a very serious offense," he said. "It's kind of shocking that it only comes with a five-year penalty."

Brown, Peterson, and Weil are scheduled to be back in Circuit Court for their preliminary hearings on Wednesday, July 2, at 1:30 p.m.

Please remember that all suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
