Cheyenne Mayor Marian Orr took to twitter on Wednesday in response to reports of racist, homophobic flyers being handed out at McCormick Junior High School.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle is reporting that the flyers (shown above) were distributed on Wednesday. The report quotes the school's principal as saying only two flyers were found and were taken down before the school day began.

But the newspaper says three other sources said there were many such flyers and that they were passed out by students carrying Confederate flags.

In response to the newspaper report, the mayor posted the following statement on Twitter:

''Tonight, my heart is the heaviest it’s been since taking office. This is not right. To the youth in our community: You are loved. You are valued. We need you to take us forward. You are Cheyenne.''
