Cheyenne Man Gets 8.75 Years in Prison Following High-Speed Chase
A 29-year-old Cheyenne man was sentenced to 105 months in federal prison Monday after he was found guilty of felon and unlawful user in possession of a firearm, the United States Attorney's Office announced Wednesday.
Devon Jonathan Souza, also known as Devon Jonathan Swan, was convicted on May 10 following a trial held before United States District Court Judge Alan B. Johnson in Cheyenne.
According to court documents and evidence presented at trial, Souza was arrested on Sept. 1, 2021, after Wyoming Highway Patrol troopers tried to pull him over for known warrants and a chase ensued.
Souza led troopers, police officers, and sheriff’s deputies on a high-speed chase through Cheyenne and then attempted to flee on foot, but was apprehended and taken into custody.
When law enforcement officers returned to Souza's vehicle they found a loaded Ruger pistol in a bag.
Souza also tested positive for methamphetamine while in custody and admitted to using fentanyl.
Souza will be subject to three years of supervised release once he is released from prison.
