A 48-year-old Cheyenne man could face life in prison after allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend and preventing her from leaving his home by threatening to kill her and her unborn baby.

According to an affidavit, Laramie County Sheriff's deputies were called to Gregory Clyde Wanberg's house on Jan. 5 after his girlfriend, who is five months pregnant, called 911 and hung up.

The woman had reportedly tried to leave the home on Jan. 4, but Wanberg allegedly chased after her and prevented her from leaving by using physical force and verbal threats.

When the woman tried to sneak out on the morning of Jan 5., Wanberg reportedly punched her in the face and told her she wasn't going anywhere.

In fear of her life, the woman went back inside the house. She was able to call 911, but hung up before talking to the dispatcher, according to the affidavit.

Wanberg was arrested and charged with kidnapping-force, aggravated assault and battery against a pregnant woman and first-offense domestic battery.

Wanberg is currently being held in the Laramie County jail on a $25,000 cash bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 16 at 9 a.m.
