Shooting Of Man By Fort Collins Police Under Investigation

A February 7 incident in which Fort Collins Police shot a suspect who they say refused to follow commands and was acting in a threatening manner towards a woman with two small children is ongoing.

That's according to a post on the Fort Collins Police Services Facebook page. According to the post, police responded to a West Fort Collins report about a suspicious armed man. When they got there, they found 33-year-old Colton Sirio in a neighborhood near West Elizabeth and South Shields. Officers recognized Sirio as someone who was wanted from a previous incident on several felony charges, including possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender, Theft, Criminal Mischief, and Domestic Violence.

They could also see that Sirio had a handgun, and was allegedly acting in a threatening manner toward a woman who was pushing two small children in a stroller. Police say that he refused to follow commands and was walking away with the woman, so an officer shot him. Sirio did know the woman and the children, according to the post.

He was taken to a local hospital, which released him on Feb. 9.

The post says he is facing the following charges:

First Degree Kidnapping - 3 counts (F2)

Second Degree Kidnapping - 3 counts (F3)

Menacing - 3 counts (F5)

Possession of Weapon by a Previous Offender (F5)

The post says the incident is being reviewed by the Critical Incident Response Team or CIRT.
