A 49-year-old Cheyenne man is being held on a $15,000 cash bond following an incident involving a handgun and alcohol.

According to a booking sheet, police arrested Hector J. Gomez Sanchez at his home in the 4000 block of Gunsmoke Road at 8:36 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 24.

It's alleged Gomez Sanchez was intoxicated when he pointed a Smith & Wesson SD9 2.0 at or in the direction of the victim.

Gomez Sanchez was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with aggravated assault and battery - attempts to cause, or intentionally or knowingly causes bodily injury to another with a deadly weapon, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and misdemeanor reckless endangering with a firearm.

Initial Court Appearance

On Friday, Sept. 26, Gomez Sanchez was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Sean C. Chambers on the charges.

Chambers told Gomez Sanchez that he didn't qualify for a public defender, and his preliminary hearing was set for Friday, Oct. 3, at 11:15 a.m.

Chambers then asked for the state's bond recommendation.

"We do not have a copy of Mr. Gomez Sanchez's federal criminal history but given the nature of these two crimes -- they were crimes of violence, they were crimes involving firearms -- the state believes that $15,000 cash is appropriate in this matter," the state said.

Bond Set at $15K Cash or Surety

Chambers set bond at $15,000 cash or surety and ordered Gomez Sanchez not have contact with the victim.

The state also requested a prohibition on alcohol, which Chambers granted.

Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
