With one more day left in the Cheyenne Firefighters 2017 ''Fill the Boot" campaign, spokesman Derek Pollnow says they have barely met their fundraising goal for the campaign.

But he is reminding local residents about the last day of the effort coming up on Saturday. The annual campaign is part of a national event that raises money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. In Cheyenne, the firefighters of Local 279 of the International Association of Firefighters had set a goal of raising $30,001 this year.

They were out this past Labor Day weekend raising money, and Pollnow says an informal count shows they barely surpassed the fundraising goal. But this year, instead of going out to collect donations on the Friday before Labor Day, as they usually do, the instead scheduled Saturday, Sept. 9 as a day to collect donations.

Pollnow says that was done to give all three shifts of Cheyenne firefighters a chance to collect donations.
