Laramie County Fire Chiefs to Host Chili Cook-Off, Open House
The Laramie County Fire Chiefs Association will host a chili cook-off and open house from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Oct. 5 at the Cheyenne Ice and Events Center.
The chili cook-off, which is now in its second year, is a fundraiser for the Muscular Dystrophy Association and will feature numerous teams vying for the title of best chili.
Proceeds from the cook-off will be added to the $32,000 Cheyenne Firefighters raised during their Fill the Boot campaign.
"The end goal is $40,000," said spokesman Derek Pollnow. "We're hopeful to hit that goal, but if not we're incredibly thrilled with the number that we're going to be able to provide to the MDA."
The open house will take place at the same time and will feature free activities for the entire family, including fire truck displays, a junior firefighter obstacle course, fire extinguisher training, demonstrations and a bouncy house. Even Smokey Bear, who celebrated his 75th birthday on Aug. 9, will be there.
Cheyenne Fire Rescue spokesman Scott Smith says the events, which are deigned to highlight Fire Prevention Week, are a great opportunity to meet first responders from throughout Laramie County.
